Central Surgery: A new name reflecting their place in the heart of Farnham
Downing Street Group Practice is excited to announce that when they relocate to their new location in Wey Court East early in the new year, their name will be changing to Central Surgery. The name, Downing Street Group Practice has been a 200-year legacy associated with much pride and belonging to the team in the past and present. Despite the practice moving only 300 metres down the road, they felt Downing Street Group Practice would not be suitable for the new location on Union Road. The name change reflects the new central location of the practice in the heart of Farnham.
As a long-standing practice serving the community, the team has listened to feedback from their patients, who have informed them that they value the convenience of being able to attend their GP practice while visiting the town centre.
With this feedback in mind, Central Surgery aims to make it easier for their community to access healthcare without the need for additional travel. The central location will allow patients to combine their visit to the surgery with other activities in town, all in one trip.
The team is also committed to making Central Surgery a more sustainable practice. By encouraging a combined GP and town visit, they hope to reduce the need for multiple car journeys. The upcoming improvements to Farnham's infrastructure will make cycling and walking to town even more convenient, providing greener alternatives for their patients.
Dr Carolyn Cottrell, GP Partner at Downing Street Group Practice, shared her thoughts on the name change: “We wanted our name to reflect our position in the heart of Farnham as we are proud to continue to offer a town centre surgery which was much wanted by our patients. Our new name symbolizes our deep connection to the community and our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality care.”
Councillor Mark Merryweather, Waverley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Finance, Assets and Property, said: “We’re eagerly anticipating the completion of the refurbishment and the relocation of the Practice to their new space. It has been a pleasure collaborating with them to deliver this vital facility for the residents of Farnham; a superb example of responsible and sustainable investment in essential infrastructure by Waverley Borough Council. We are extremely pleased to have ensured that the practice remains in the heart of Farnham town centre, allowing them to grow and continue meeting the needs of our local community.”
With this exciting new chapter, the practice remains dedicated to delivering the same exceptional care, in a location that works best for their community. They look forward to opening their doors to their patients as Central Surgery, Farnham.
