October is Menopause Awareness Month
World Menopause Day – 18 October 2025
October is Menopause Awareness Month, and each year on 18 October, people around the world come together to mark World Menopause Day. This year’s theme focuses on how lifestyle medicine can play an important role in supporting health and wellbeing during menopause.
Since it was founded in 2009, the International Menopause Society (IMS) has worked to raise awareness and improve the menopause experience for women everywhere. While progress has been made, many women still face challenges during this natural stage of life — and conversations around menopause remain as important as ever.
World Menopause Day is an opportunity to shine a light on these experiences, share the latest research and resources, and encourage open discussion about how women can be best supported through the menopause transition.
The IMS highlights six key areas of lifestyle medicine that can help women feel their best during and after menopause:
- Healthy eating – nourishing your body with balanced, nutritious foods
- Regular physical activity – keeping active to support both body and mind
- Mental wellbeing – caring for your emotional health and managing stress
- Avoidance of risky substances – limiting alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful habits
- Restorative sleep – prioritising good quality rest
- Healthy relationships – fostering positive social connections and support
To help women put these principles into practice, the IMS has created six downloadable factsheets with simple, practical tips for everyday life. These resources are designed to empower women, promote healthy ageing, and encourage meaningful conversations with healthcare professionals, family, and friends.
You can find the factsheets, along with more information and translated versions, on the International Menopause Society website
