Local Slough GP awarded British Empire Medal
Dr Priya Kumar, GP at Kumar Medical Centre in Slough has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s birthday honours.
Dr Kumar is also the NHS Frimley lead for Health Inequalities in Slough and Transformational Clinical Lead for Connected Care and has been awarded the BEM for services to health improvement in the South East of England which includes her dedication to helping those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities.
On receiving the award Dr Kumar said “It has been a privilege to serve the community of Slough over the past 10 years. Slough has a great sense of community, and our healthcare professionals collectively strive to improve the care for our residents. Watching my father and mother serve this community for the past 50 years has shown me the true meaning of dedication and hard work.
“This was particularly important through the COVID-19 pandemic where I was able to work with the South East regional team to spread a local innovation in Slough nationally. The Slough Place team and Connected Care team have been central to the multiple innovative projects in Slough, and I thank all my colleagues, who have supported me in my past role as Primary Care Strategy lead and now Health Inequalities lead for Slough and Transformational Clinical lead for the Connected Care team.
“This is about the people of Slough, and I hope over the next 10+ years we can achieve even better outcomes by working with a wider set of stakeholders and co-producing local solutions with our local residents to serve future generations of Slough.”
