How can you find out your cholesterol level?

Cholesterol is carried in your blood, so you need to have a blood test to find out what your level is.

You'll be invited for a free NHS Health Check every five years if you are between 40 and 74 years of age and do not already have a pre-existing cardiovascular condition, kidney disease, or diabetes.

If you have these pre-existing conditions, or are receiving cholesterol-lowering treatment, you should be offered regular check ups, including cholesterol testing. Adults under 40 who are concerned could ask if their GP supports testing or test privately, for example by visiting a pharmacy.
